Prior to the first appointment, patients will need to electronically fill out a health history form and new patient packet containing consents for treatment and the psychiatry practice's office policies. This paperwork may take 15-30 min to complete and is required to be finished and submitted 48 hours before the first appointment to avoid appointment cancellation.

During the first appointment, we will discuss mental health symptom history, past medications, current medications (if any), and the reason for seeking treatment.

If you have not recently had a medical exam, we will suggest scheduling a check-up with a primary care provider before starting any new psychiatric medications. This is to make sure that there are no medical reasons for your symptoms. If you have had a check-up recently, we may still need to order additional blood tests, depending on the symptoms and treatment plan.

If you feel that your mental health is "stable" on your current medications and your last labs were normal, additional testing may not be necessary.

For chronic mental health conditions that do not require any medication changes, follow-up appointments will usually be every 1-3 months, depending on your medication regimen. If medication changes are needed or if your condition is getting worse, you may need to be seen more often or referred to a higher level of care.
